EIL MT exam pattern, Sample papers and Books

Saturday, June 5, 2010

EIL MT exam pattern/selection process:
Selection process of EIL MT position consists of a written test followed by Interview for those shortlisted in the written test.

The written test centres for EIL MT positions are located in following 16 cities:
Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kochi, Delhi, Guwahati, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ranchi, Secunderabad, Vadodara.
The exam is scheduled to be held in June/July 2010 (tentative).

Not much has been said in the EIL MT Recruitment notification about the EIL exam pattern other than that: “The test will comprise of technical questions as well as questions on Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, Reasoning and English Language.”

So I had to dig on Internet sources to find the pattern of EIL Written test and findings are as follows:
There are two Objective type test papers of total 150 questions to be answered in 2 hrs:
1.0 Technical paper: 100 Question.
2.0 Non-Technical paper: 50 Question.
There is negative marking - 1/4th mark.
Compared to non-Technical paper, Technical paper is easier – mostly basic questions are asked. In non-Technical paper, 5-10 questions are from general English while rest are from GK. Reportedly, no questions were asked from Quantitative Aptitude or Test of Reasoning.

EIL MT exam syllabus/study materials for Technical paper:
No syllabus has been prescribed by EIL for its Management Trainees written test. In absence of a specific syllabus, how do you prepare for the exam? My suggestion is to refer to the GATE exam syllabus for your particular branch of engineering. This suggestion is not only for EIL exam , but also for any other entrance/recruitment exams for which the syllabus is not defined.

EIL MT exam syllabus/study materials for non-Technical paper:
As can be expected for any competitive recruitment exam, there is not EIL syllabus for the non-Technical paper either. Hence you have to base your preparation on the exam pattern of other PSU’s.

My suggestion in this regards would be to base your preparation on Bank PO exams, which has exactly similar test sections as EIL non-technical paper: Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, Reasoning and English Language. You can find an exhaustive blog article on a recent Central Bank of India PO exam, which gives you not only the Sample papers but also books for preparation of the exam.

As had been told before, the bias in EIL non-technical paper is towards General Awareness and to some extent on test of English language. So you have to update your GK through newspapers, magazines as well websites such as Competition Master.

EIL MT exam sample papers/model papers/previous years papers:
You must be looking for previous years papers of EIL MT exam on the net. Well, I did the search for you and I found Freshers World to be a very good source for these papers. Branch-wise sample papers for EIL MT exam as given in the above website is as follows:

EIL MT exam sample/ previous years papers for Instrumentation engineering.
EIL MT exam sample/ previous years papers for Mechanical engineering.
EIL MT exam sample/ previous years papers for Chemical engineering.
EIL MT exam sample/ previous years papers for Electrical engineering.
EIL MT exam sample/ previous years papers for Civil engineering.

Let me tell you that above sample papers for EIL MT exam should be used as eye-openers only to have the feel about the exam content. Your in-depth preparation for EIL MT exam should be based on GATE exam (for Technical paper) and Bank PO exams (for non-Technical paper).

EIL MT Interview questions:
Once you clear the EIL written test, you have to face the EIL Interview. How do you prepare for that?
Other than the technical knowledge that you must be strong at and hence be prepared to face any question, this blog provides you an exhaustive resource on job Interview questions.
