Utkal University was established in 1943. The University is the 17th oldest University in India with its campus at Vani Vihar, BHUBANESWAR. The Foundation stone was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on 1st January 1958. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating University.

Now the University has 27 Post-Graduate teaching and research departments. It researches in various disciplines of Science, Humanities ,Business Administration, Social Science, Law and Commerce departments. With regular courses, 27 sponsored courses are offered under the control of the P.G. Council of the University.
